Just because the weather is getting cooler that doesn't mean you should stop drinking juices and smoothies. We've got loads of recipes that can warm you up from the inside and keep you healthy.
Starting with the Halloween Special which we've got on the blackboards for this month only. It's made with beetroot, carrot, apple, lemon, cinnamon and cayenne. A great mix of earthy root vegetables, tangy citrus flavour and spices.
According to Dr Axe (www.draxe.com) Cayenne Pepper has been used as both a food and medicine for 9,000 years. Cayenne pepper benefits are numerous and effective; it’s used to help digestion, including heal upset stomach, slow intestinal gas, stop stomach pain, cure diarrhea and as a natural remedy for cramps. It’s also used for conditions of the heart and blood vessels – including to improve poor circulation, reverse excessive blood clotting, lower high cholesterol and prevent heart disease.
When consumed, cayenne pepper has the power to relieve a toothache, seasickness, alcoholism, malaria and fever; it’s also used to help people who have difficulty swallowing. When applied topically, cayenne pepper benefits the skin, too. It alleviates pain caused by shingles, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and even as part of a natural remedy for fibromyalgia.
We also use Cayenne Pepper in our new Veggie Kick made with Sweet Potato and Red Pepper. This is going down a storm this month, so come in now and try one whilst we have all the ingredients.
According to researchers, out of twenty-six of the most popular herbs and medicinal spices in the world, cinnamon actually ranks #1 in terms of its protective antioxidant levels!
The unique smell, color, and flavor of cinnamon is due to the oily part of the tree that it grows from. The health benefits of cinnamon come from the bark of the Cinnamomum tree. This bark contains several special compounds which are responsible for its many health promoting properties- including cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, and cinnamate.
Researchers have concluded that the health benefits of cinnamon can be obtained in the form of its pure bark, essential oils, in ground spice form (which is bark powder), or in extract form when its special phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and antioxidants are isolated. These compounds make cinnamon one of the most beneficial spices on earth, giving it antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, immunity-boosting and heart disease-protecting abilities.
The Veggie Kick is another of our new recipes that really will warm you up on a chilly autumn morning. It is also our first juice that we've made using Sweet Potato. If you read our blog last week you will know all about the health benefits of this root vegetable that isn't actually a potato!
As well as Cayenne Pepper this juice also has Red Pepper so is sure to warm you up.
If you are worried that these juices might be too spicy for you, just let our staff know and they can go easy on the Cayenne, we know it is not to everyone's taste, but the benefits of having your juices made fresh to order is that you can adjust the ingredients to suit your own taste.
Both these October favourites can also be ordered from our online shop in two sizes of sealed bottles. We will also deliver to your home or place of work within the Town ring road. Note: minimum order of 4 bottles applies for delivery.
An article about spicy juices wouldn't be complete without mentioning our old favourite, ginger! We go through loads of ginger every day in both our shops. We know how much you juice lovers appreciate the taste and health benefits of this very special root.
This month we have the Sweet Immunity which combines the benefits of juicing and blending with a warming spiciness provided by the Ginger and Turmeric. We take freshly juiced oranges and add to this the juice of apples, lemon, turmeric and ginger. The juice is then blended with banana to give it the sweetness. Normally we use frozen banana because we know that most of you like your juices chilled and it helps thicken the smoothie. However, if you prefer your juices at room temperature ask for fresh banana instead.
We've written about the Flu Shot before, which is a firm favourite at Barannes. The flu shot is ideal if you don't want the volume of liquid that goes into our standard juices and smoothies, but you still want the health benefits of ginger and turmeric.
Next time you are having a juice why not ask for a flu shot and knock this back while you are waiting? It's a great way to start the day.
